Rothay Garden Hotel is a year-round retreat in Grasmere, one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District. This is an ideal base for a short break or holiday in the Lake District, and winner in 2018 of the prestigious Cumbria Tourism Small Hotel of the Year.
There are 30 bedrooms in total, in six different tiers of bedroom and suite to cater for couples, families and groups.
The Garden Restaurant, with 2 AA Rosettes, is an attraction in its own right, with wonderful cuisine and views over the hotel's two acres of gardens.
The Riverside Spa – available only for hotel guests – has floor-to-ceiling windows so that you can enjoy the views of the surrounding fells while you relax. There is a hydro spa, a herbal pine sauna with views of the garden, an aromatherapy room, two monsoon showers, sunken loungers with air-jets and water cannons, and a relaxing reflexology walk.
Grasmere itself is a delightful village. The house where the poet Wordsworth lived is now open to the public and includes a fascinating museum. There are galleries and independent shops in the village, and a wide range of outdoor pursuits.
The Vale of Grasmere is a paradise for walkers, with trails, crags and tarns including Loughrigg, Easedale, Alcock, Helm and the Coffin Trail, and climbs such as Helvellyn, Langdale Pikes, Fairfield Horsehoe and Scafell Pike within walking distance, and Coniston Old Man and Skiddaw just a short drive away. And of course the wider area of the district is rich in sailing, cycling, fishing, golf and other activities.
